PDO Thread Lift Q&A

What is a PDO thread lift?

A PDO thread lift is a minimally invasive facelift that uses dissolvable polydioxanone threads to lift your skin and tissues upward toward your temples. The procedure takes just 45 minutes or so in the office at CynSational Aesthetics after careful planning by Ms. Sanchez.

During a PDO thread lift, Ms. Sanchez disinfects your skin with alcohol before applying a local anesthetic. She makes small incisions near your hairline, then inserts and anchors the threads. Once anchored, she gently lifts your skin before trimming the thread and closing the incision.

Eventually, the threads dissolve in your skin. Before that happens, new collagen grows around the threads to give you long-lasting results. Collagen is a structural protein in your skin and tissues that adds firmness, which you lose with age.

What are the results of a PDO thread lift?

A PDO thread lift can make some specific changes depending on the placement of the threads. Ms. Sanchez uses anywhere from 1-15 threads per area to lift and tighten sagging skin. The procedure can minimize or treat many specific facial features, including:

  • Jowls
  • Marionette lines
  • Nasolabial folds
  • Sagging lower eyelids
  • Sagging cheeks

The results of a PDO thread lift aren’t as dramatic as the results of a surgical facelift, but there are considerable benefits of choosing a PDO thread lift over the traditional option. It requires less recovery time, no hospital stay, and no general anesthesia, and your results look more natural.

How long do the results of a PDO thread lift last?

You can expect the polydioxanone threads to dissolve in your skin within about six weeks of your procedure. This gives your skin plenty of time to recover and grow new collagen around the threads. However, this doesn’t mean your results disappear after six months: They last much longer.

You can expect to enjoy the lifting and tightening effect of a PDO thread lift for 12-24 months. The treatment doesn’t bring the aging process to a halt, so you eventually see the return of treated wrinkles and sagging. However, you may have the option to touch up your results with more threads over time.
